We want to personally invite you to join us in a couple of weeks for our Friends of Highland Recreation Area 2019 Annual Meeting and Social. This year we’re having our meeting at the White Lake Township Community Hall at 7500 Highland Road in White Lake on Wednesday, November 6. Bring guests if you want too - we enjoy meeting new people!

Complimentary hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and soft beverages start at 6:30 pm. Our meeting starts at 7:00 pm and runs to about 8:45 pm. We’ll be showing video and photo presentations reviewing our activities in the last year, and we have a special guest who will speak about the Edible Trails initiative in Michigan.

Please join us if you can. Good times with good people! We’d love to have ya.

Join Us for a 10 Year Celebration at Bakers of Milford

On behalf of Friends of Highland Recreation Area (FOHRA) we’d like to invite you, your family, and members of your organization to our 2017 Annual Meeting on Wednesday, November 8, 6:00 pm, at Bakers of Milford. The evening will celebrate 10 years of achievements of our Friends group and its Supporters. Awards will be presented during the evening. 

Social time with refreshments and appetizers will begin at 6:00 pm, dinner buffet at 6:30 pm, and the formal start of the meeting is at 7:00 pm.

Guest Speaker is Mr. Russel Doré automotive historian who will present, “The Dodge Brothers, Their Company and Their Lives”, a one hour speaking engagement with visuals. Learn how these machinists went from being parts suppliers to creating an automobile company which at one time was second only to the Ford Motor Company. And “FOHRA: 10 Years at Haven Hill” by Jay Fitzgerald, FOHRA Secretary. A photographic and video journey of the Friends group and their work over the years at Highland State Recreation Area.

Vintage Base Ball at Haven Hill: Ball Players Wanted

Everyone in your family can attend the free Haven Hill Festival on Saturday, August 26, and enjoy the Vintage Base Ball game at 10:00 am at the Goose Meadow Ball Field. We love ball players and fans of the game and also want to welcome anyone interested in playing Vintage Base Ball with the Haven Hill Barnstormers or the Gate House Nine. 

  • Play as a volunteer in an 1860’s Vintage Base Ball Game at Highland State Recreation Area.

  • No glove required. White long sleeve shirt, black pants, and suspenders.

  • Free 1860’s style base ball hat for playing ball.

  • Learn the history and rules of 1860’s base ball - enjoy the way the game was originally played.

  • Free digitally-aged "Vintage" photo of you and the Team.

Game day is Saturday, August 26, 2017. 9:00 am report at Haven Hill Festival at the Goose Meadow ball field at Highland State Recreation Area. Match starts at 10:00 am.

Men and women welcome. Age 13 and older please.

Children also welcome as dressed bat boys/girls/mascots! Swing the bat and run the bases at an inning break.

Snow Snakes Will Slither Sunday at the Edsel Ford Barn

Despite the lack of snow, the Snakes will still slither at the Edsel Ford Barn on Sunday...

The Boy Scouts of America Chief Pontiac Trail Committee Snow Snake races will be held at the Edsel Ford Barn. Race Day is Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 1 PM to 4 pm at the Edsel Ford Sheep Barn, near the Organizational Camping Area. $3 per competitor; pay at the event. Includes one CPPC Lil’ Brave Segment patch. Extras Snow Snakes on hand to use and to purchase.

Recreational Passport (RP) required. Buy your Rec Passport for 2017 if needed ($11.00).

FREE Special Program: Haven Hill - A Story to Tell - A Legacy to Honor

Come hear the story of The People – The Place – The Significance of Haven Hill & Highland State Recreation Area in the origins of Michigan State Parks & Natural Area System in Southeast Michigan and beyond. 

You will hear about Glacial Landforms & Native Americans, the Edsel & Eleanor Ford Family, the Dodge Brothers, PJ Hoffmaster (First Director of our State Parks), Genevieve Gillette (First Lady of our State Parks), Jens Jensen (noted Prairie Style Landscape Architect), and even the Girl Scouts of America’s National Roundup. Program by Lawrence Falardeau, Artist and Landscape Architect.
